‘Down the Drain’ is the opening track of Philippines four piece Folding Bed’s latest release Singles. Hailing from Cebu City, Folding Bed know that any self respecting shoegaze band worth their salt mix their guitars loud. And they are loud. Really loud. In the opening moments of the track you hear the band hitting their instruments as hard as they can. Then, as breezy and melodic vocal lines reverberate, bass and drums provide a solid groove that is flooded by gallons upon gallons of super heavyweight guitar. Around the middle of the track we come up for air as guitars are washed clean, and the band begins to collaborate, riffing blissfully. However the plug is soon pulled and things become almost unbearably loud and heavy as things spiral out of control. This is an absolutely massive ending to the track, Folding Bed sound like an unstoppable force, a trail of devastation in their wake, leaving nothing behind but sonic wreckage, noise and feedback. -Adam Brown
